Red Bus Cafe… in Essex

So what is the Red Bus Cafe in Essex…

Follow this link it will take you to an old video on the tube from 2012, to see a clean cafe with good quality food, situated within an old red bus, between Halstead & Earls Colne in Essex, what you see is as it is today… Diane has served everyone from the local tradesmen to passing Lorry drivers for over twenty years, in which time we have been coming here and then some… There has been a Bus on this site for over forty years, this is one of the last true roadside cafes left, without the modern greasy burgers everyone associates these places with…

The Red Bus Cafe, as it is today…

Ask for a burger, you won’t see one here, however, ask for an English breakfast, and you will get a very decent portion of sausage’s, eggs, bacon, beans or tomato (- even both if you ask nicely -) fresh farmhouse local bread is bought daily for your toast, and freshly buttered bread, with a cup of tea [- or coffee -] as i am no longer allowed this sort of food, this is where i came for my last English breakfast, Diane will serve you with freshly prepared sandwichs of your choice [- as long as she has the ingredients -] many people who pass this way, & not just the local’s phone in advance for their sandwiches, and pick up the food & drink on the way through… But if it is only once, you really ought to try & stop for a breakfast, in a very quirky, clean roadside cafe, which are slowly disappearing from our roadsides…

On a nice day, you can choose whether you eat inside or out, especially if it is busy… Don’t be put off by the noise that appears in the video, i think it is amplified, by the video, sometimes you notice the noise of the traffic, but not that much, you can still hold a decent level of conversation…
Diane is busy cooking my breakfast, the good size kitchen is situated at the rear of the bus…
When you enter the bus, there is ample space to sit comfortably… with a good array of traditional condiments…
Most of the Tabloid newspapers are supplied for you to read on a daily basis, so you can sit reading the days news whilst your freshly cooked breakfast is being prepared…
Although not big by a restaurant size, it can seat comfortably ten people having breakfast, whilst there are five more seats for you to sit on whilst waiting, for your order to be completed…
Nothing has been taken away, it has still got all the equipment it had when it was decommissioned…
The driver’s compartment is now a storage area but you don’t notice it when you board the bus, as you are distracted “by being” greeted with the smell of a breakfast being cooked, & the uniqueness of your surroundings…
You can not miss it, it is Red…
The area around the bus is kept neat and tidy… Whilst the Verges are unkempt and get neglected, i suppose it is due to the bio-diversity of nature that the local council adopt !…
