Finds from the Concrete Floor…

T2 pays a visit to more solid ground on Sunday with the dig meagre finds shown in the photos, top right in the photo is a sphere, which has been broken exposing a sponge fossil, followed by mostly scrap, a couple of pre-decimals, furniture fitting, and another object which i love finding, this one has two holes at one end…

i have two others of these, both different, one shaped from a spoon, the other is part of a broken pocket knife, shaped to do the task they were designed for… unfortunately, i have no photos, of these two, as they are still packed away…

In this photo, most people would comment on this as a part of a broken spur, but look again and see how it has been shaped at one end, it has been deliberately curved towards a blunt point…

That blunt point has a purpose, many an old wives tale about boy scouts has been told about removing stones stuck in horses’ hooves, whether or not there is a grain of truth in there somewhere, i don’t know, but this find, with its two holes in one end [- could well have been a part of a spur, once upon a time -] has been re-purposed & is designed for a “new” particular purpose, its job was to remove stones and other objects from the frog of a horses hoof…

folding pocket knife, with a tool used for many applicatiopns, not least of removing items from horses hooves…
