15-01-2023 – A690 Castle Dig, with the East Durham Detectors Ltd. group run by Anthoney Matthews…
And BOOM – Anthony Matthews – well what can i say, it looks like a professional dig was organised again today, everyone at the brief was well informed about possible munitions, due to the pasture fields being used for training during the second world war, and it paid off, as no one was injured when the live rounds were found, only a few grumbles when the fields were cleared for health and safety reasons, but they instantly disappeared when within minutes a whole new area was opened up, with arable fields this time, where the day was rescued with many hammered coins and silver coins and artefacts…
When the area was cleared by the police, the bomb disposal squad turned up about an hour later and cleared the area, and made sure the munitions that were found were taken care of with a controlled explosion…
Yes, the rumors are true, i left my detector at home, i was lucky and borrowed Anthony Matthews 600, still didn’t find anything but at least i tried, lots of friendly lads helping with the setup, no headphones but still better than going home early…
shown above is the borrowed 600…
Shown below are just some of the finds from the other members of the herd…
