Who is the UK Detectorist & what do i do-?
Thank you for reading this, i am a Metal Detectorist & i have full public liability insurance of £ 10,000,000, this Insurance is provided by the AMDS, a national organisation for metal detectorists, the insurance we are covered by is recognised by the NFU, and other National Bodies…

I would like to assure anyone reading this that i am very respectful and always seek permission from landowners, prior to entering any private land, i follow all of the guidelines as laid out by the landowner & follow the Code of Practice for Responsible Metal Detecting in England and Wales (2017)…
I also support The Portable Antiquities Scheme (- PAS -) where possible, which is a voluntary scheme to record any archaeological objects found by members of the public in both England and Wales… ( Scotland has its own treasure laws )
That’s me, now, what can i offer you, with permission, to search your land, using a metal detector, i can help locate lost or missing metal objects, along with your permission i would like to search your land for Historical Artefacts, all of the research will be done by me, with a copy available to you if you would like to see what we have uncovered, & with a little luck and perseverance, we might hopefully uncover some interesting Artefacts & Coins.
A lot of finds are made up of pre-decimal coinage with the occasional older coin & random bits of broken agricultural metal objects (- known within metal detecting circles as a “BOAT” which stands for “Bits Of Agricultural Things -) when you consider that within the last two hundred odd years due to the industrial revolution, many broken pieces of iron have made its way into the soil, no matter how good a metal detector is, occasionally the iron is so big it produces a good signal which has to be dug out of the ground, even if the signal given of by a metal detector sounds like an “iffy signal” it is best to dig it out, just in case, so, what happens to the iron i dig out, it goes into my finds pouch, but due to the size of my finds pouch, at the end of the field i started from, i leave a rhino tub, and empty the iron and scrap into it, ready to start again all be it lighter, that rhino tub then gets taken away at the end of every dig and disposed of properly…

But it’s not all doom and gloom, occasionally items of real interest are found, from buckles, buttons, crotel bells, etc… i am not in this to make money, this is my hobby i get enjoyment from looking for history, & the ability to find an object buried just inches beneath the surface with my metal detector, even when a field is so massive & the hunt seems to be impossible, to find that tiny artefact in such a massive area, which hasn’t been seen for hundreds of years, this is the reason the hobby i have chosen is so addictive, you never know what the next signal will bring to light…
So, without any effort from yourselves or landowners, once the ball is in my court we do everything that needs to be done, although we offer the possibility of finding something of historical significance, it’s not guaranteed, and all that i ask is that you say yes & i will do some quick research and we are good to go-!
I also offer a free recovery service for farmers, landowners, and the general public, please contact me for more information…
Below is just a selection of finds i have found over the years…
