What is a Light Box…

As a means of photographing small objects, a light-box offers more in the way of a clean controlled photo which when placed on a white background like a web page or magazine page the appearance of a clean shot is all about the object, in our case, the artefact or coins etc…etc… as shown here the shot has a tinge of blue, i assume this has happened as my chosen box uses LED’s instead of daylight bulbs, how to change this i suppose would be to ditch this light box & buy another light box with a different lighting system, but i am not a purest and if i need a white one i will revert back to making one…100_0290 (2)

All of the photos on this page have been taken inside the light box, one small problem which i am trying to sort out at the moment is the photographic board is far to big to fit inside the new box without jiggling it around so for the mh3moment when the artefacts are photographed i might just use the board outside of the light box simply as a means of a size chart… 100_0015

 

 

 

 

shown on the left is the clear shot of the box with two rows of LED’s, and a round hole purposely cut out on the roof of the box to take shots of your subject from above, a clever idea, as sometimes an artefact just wont behave and stay in one position, there are two cables to work the LED’s and both lead to one USB which fits into a laptop or computer port, the manufactures do not recommend a higher voltage, IE one from an electric socket, so it is best to keep plug into the computer, which is easy enough…
