let me introduce the reason ukdetectingworld.com came about, first of all I am a metal detectorist of many years, with treasure hunting being my one and only hobby, from boyhood to manhood…

Before setting off at Cressing Temple…

Like quite a few people I have been frustrated by the lack of space to sell our new or second-hand equipment… also i have noticed that if anyone makes or sells items for the treasure hunter, there is only a handful of outlets to possibly sell from, without going down the route of starting up an online shop, most sites for anyone to sell from, has now been taken over with cheap imitations, or merchandise that does not work, plus most potential buyers are having to wade waist-deep through Chinese imports, and getting lost along the way, and end up buying something that is poor quality and don’t work, just through lack of experience..

Because there is very few sites open to people wanting to sell “leading brand metal detectors” without the costly overheads of existing sites, or posting on a free advert site where the site earns its revenue through adverts, and slow everything down, the hassle of opening a shop just for one or two items seems extreme to say the least, going on social media is the best of these opportunities, with its sales achieving good results, but social media does not attract the potential customer who is either a beginner or someone who just wants something for his children, these are the people that get fall through the net as they say, and by falling through the net they are potential customers that have been lost, so what is the answer, i like to think we have something that fills the gap, quite adequately, but on the internet we have to protect not only the potential customer but ourselves, so unfortunately it comes with a cost…
Many online sites selling all sorts of items is not targeted to the British Manufacturer or seller, so we believe there is a niche market, which other “auction sites” or “classified ad sites” won’t bother with, as it is only a small amount of a bigger picture, this is where we hope to fill that void…

Treasure Hunting Equipment especially Metal Detectors are a prime example of where people think they are getting a bargain, simply through clever advertising, anyone purchasing these non-leading-brand detectors, soon realise that their hard earned money has been wasted, i have seen potential metal detectorists turn up to rally with these imported metal detectors, only to see them leave early, or become diggers to their friends due to the frustration that is caused by an inferior machine…
Social Media, as an outlet, is great, as it moves everything along and sales are buoyant, but it is not reaching those potential customers who have the money to spend on a new hobby, we are and will continue to target this section as we have identified many new sources to open this, new potential market up…

2020 was a frustrating year for all detectorists, especially metal detecting clubs, as they still have had to pay their subs, with support sometimes getting thin on the grounds…with finances in the forefront of our mind, and easing of the lockdown, and detecting club meetings starting to look possible, without having to ask people for more money, we might have a solution…coming soon is an original idea, that we first had when we first started selling items from our first online shop in 2001, which we have outgrown and now; It was late in 2020 that saw us set up an auction and classified website, for people to buy, sell or swap “leading brand metal detectors and metal detecting accessories”

so where do you as a club fit in with this…

we are offering clubs an opportunity to open a Treasure Hunting related, shop on our website…

Denarius with Mercury facing right….

basically, we charge you an annual subscription at a low cost… this allows you to list an unlimited amount of “treasure hunting-metal detecting” related items, in your shop over the forthcoming year, the cost to you per listing and sale would be free,  as you have bought and paid for a subscription, but you can charge your members a nominal fee, to list items…
look at the fees people are being charged to list and sell a metal detector costing £ 1000.00p +…

Your members can see that once listed it can stay on your shop’s “shelf” until sold, for a small fee… even a £ 1500.00p CTX-330 could potentially be sold for as little as a pound…

on a well-known auction site these small items like books that are put up for sale costing £ 10.00p or less, only achieve £ 7.60p or less back into the sellers pocket once the fees are taken away…

our auction site allows you to list twelve [-12-] photos, per-listing…

Should any club accept our offer, there are two things that needs to be done, for this to be viable, you need to arrange for a Paypal account for payments, most clubs have this already set in place, but just in case, don’t forget this is free for you as a club…

next you will need to nominate a shopkeeper, their task would be too;
1- collect the finances
2- collect the data & at least one photo, but no more than twelve photos from the person who wishes to list an item…

3- once everything is collected together & everything is double-checked, then it is the shopkeeper’s last task to load the data & photos to complete the advert…

Roman Gold Earring, with a Roman coin found in the same clump of soil, from the third spade full, out of the hole…

we have a list of marketing strategies that we are putting into place to increase the sales potential, we are targeting potential as well as established metal detectorists…it is up to us to open this sales avenue to those outside of our chosen hobby…any suggestions are welcome…will this work ?
