All Change for 2026…

OK…

A new start for the new year…

Well, that did not last long. I have been out twice, first i was locked and loaded & ready to go, but, no metal detecting due to escaped moo-moo’s, so i helped the farmer round up the wayward cows, then the second trip was abandoned due to the ground being frozen, it was impossible to dig. Dig Three was an organised dig by the DDD, but their dig was cancelled due to the ground being frozen, not such an auspicious start to the new year… But that is not the best of it…

Only a metal detectorist will be able to understand the joke

After coming home late at night, from helping out the son in law with a flat tyre, upon arriving home, i found that the freezing weather all day, which was below zero on my street, & with the rain coming down in a steady drizzle, had turned the street into a sheet of solid Black Ice, and living on a hill things went from bad to worse, & got very intresting pretty quick…

After turning onto my street, i then proceeded to slip down the hill, desperately trying to avoid all of my neighbours’ cars on the way down, after successfully avoiding any insurance claims & with the front wheels turned to try and navigate around the corner, i failed rather miserabley, i did not succeed with this final hurdale, because i mounted the kerb side on, avoiding the brick wall in front of me, but bending track rod ends, ball joints etc… After finally stoping a foot away from my neighbours car, i tried to revers but to no avail, so me being me, i grabbed the shovel out of the back of the van, slipped and slidered to the wheel barrow on the drive and procedded to grit the road, just to move the van into the lay-by, trying to pay attion to where the worst bits were as i did not want to fall over, with the last shovelful i lent backwards to speard it towards the rear of the van, next thing i knew i had landed on the pavement with full force on my back and specifically down the right side, there was a loud snap, like a dry twig breaking, with instant pain, then i realised my hip had taken a very bad knock, & this, at my age could spell danger if i had broken or chipped it, after retrieving myself i finished what i was doing & got indoors, i managed to sllep quite well but when i got up for work the next day it felt really painfull when i breathed, moved and done anything, showering was diffucult, a i got myself into work but after four hours i left work early and went down to the hospital, & into the urgent care unit, seven hours later, with examinations, proding and poking & a set of x-rays i was relised with the words of wisdom, severe brusing of ribs, damaged musles mass, slight trapped nerves and cartlidge damage, but no broken bones, the breaking sound was possaibiley the carilidge snapping on the shoulder blade and ribs seperating…

Great, i cannot walk far, let alone pick up a detector and swing it… Now I’m buggered, are all New Year resolutions this difficult…
