T2 – Faustina 11;

Faustina II Denarius…

Heads…

On the Obverse we have the word FAVSTINA to the left of the “draped bust” of the right-facing portrait, & AVGVSTA on the right of her head…

Tails…

On the reverse is the word FECVNDITAS, going round from left to right, on the reverse, with Fecunditas standing right, ( facing right ) holding the scepter and infant. { RIC 677 }

Fecuunditas was in Roman mythology, the goddess of fertility, [-fecunditas which means in Latin: “fecundity, or fertility”-]

She was portrayed as a matron, sometimes holding a cornucopia or a hasta pura, (-1-) with children in her arms or standing next to her… whilst Nero dedicated a temple at Rome to Fecunditas, on the occasion of his daughter’s birth in 63 AD…

1 = A hasta pura was a spear made “without iron” & was awarded to a soldier the first time that he conquered in battle…
