Waterproof Headphones…

So, following on from my earlier post about the waterproofness of headphones and the cause of their demise in wet or damp conditions, my choice was simple: Paper or Piezo…

I have chosen wireless for the sunshine or milder weather, and, to participate when it is damp, or raining & the weather wants us to stay indoors, i can still go out by using my new set of waterproof headphones…

Yes, i went ahead & i committed myself to purchasing a set of Detector Pro Amphibian waterproof headphones, for the inclement weather, with an impressive length of headphone cable at four feet (-4ft ) and a massive depth of waterprofness of two hundred feet (-200 feet-) that should allow me to get very wet, without any problems…

All this time I’ve been detecting with a twenty-eight-year-old pair of Predator headphones, from Crawfords, without any trouble & i must admit these are such good headphones and so comfortable, a few hours or longer it makes no difference, they work so well ( and still work fine-all be it the ear muffs are splitting ) but to use them with the legend i must use a fly lead, which i have emailed Crawfords about, but as the Legend comes with a set of wireless headphones, i have been convinced that this is the way forward, so Blue tooth for now and the newly purchased gray ghost amphibian wired headphones, will make a wet appearance…

First Impressions…

For there price my First Impressions are the finish quality, i am not that impresed, i must admit the Gray Ghosts headphones have a “very poor quality to the finish” the holes drilled into the ear cups have not been finished off properly, ( the holes, i assume allows the water to drain out ) there is trailing plastic visible where the holes have been drilled & randomly placed, whilst with the tiny little bungs used to seal and hold the overhead cables into the cups, these don’t fit properly, and are flapping around, looking for a job to do, this also seems to have happened, on the rest of the wires on the headphones. One of the first jobs i have had to do was adjust the wires to get them to sit properly in their respective holes, move the wires around holes to prevent any chaffing that might occur, and double checking that the wires are now in place and not stretched, which could cause stress…

Now, I hope I’ve made the right choice, but that’s the problem with ordering blind on the internet; this seems to be happening more and more lately, with various products, i recognise that the bag was sealed, so the supplier Spin-A-Disc wouldn’t have known about the terrible quality of these headphones…

Anyway, i have plugged them into the Legend, & having checked them out in the field, they do sound ok, with a good tone, whilst appearing to be crisp and clear, a good length of straight cable will allow the headphones to be clipped to the upper stem, and following along under the shaft to exit at the arm cuff, hopefully eliminating any stress & more importanly creating hardly any stress on the control housing…

Shown in the photograph on the top right is the little sealed box, which apparently is where the magic happens & that will make all the difference…
